The following trade had an official trade veto request submitted:

My Tribute gave up Davis, James CLE RB;Buccaneers, Tampa Bay TBB Def
Force gave up Bears, Chicago CHI Def

There are two reason for a trade veto which are 1) Collusion; and 2) that the trade is so lopsided that it hurts the competitive balance of the league.

Looking at the first reason for a trade veto: Collusion.  I know both of the owners involved in the trade.  I know the character of LT, the owner of My Tribute enough to know that he would not collude or cheat.  I'm not saying that cheating is beyond anyone.  I'm judging by the years of witnessing this owner conduct himself in several different FF leagues as a Commissioner and fellow owner.  There hasn't been the slightest evidence that he does not conduct himself without integrity.  He also has a passion for FF and loves to win.  The idea of him purposefully making a move to give another team an advantage doesn't fit.  I don't know the owner of Force, Kenny, as well but I know him well enough that the idea of him colluding doesn't fit either.

Some may say that "knowing" these guys may make my opinion of this trade biased.  Wasn't it Martin Luther King Jr. who urged that judge by the content of ones character?

Then there is the 2nd reason for a trade veto: Lopsided enough to affect the competitive balance in the league.  What made the owner request a trade veto was James Davis being involved in the deal.  The trade was offered by My Tribute, the former owner of James Davis.  Usually, not always, but usually what you see in a deal that is lopsided is an owner offering a little and getting a lot.  In this case, My Tribute was the one to offer Davis and the Bucs D for the Bears D.  Last season the Bucs D scored higher than the Bears D.  Why would an owner trade a lesser scoring defense and a promising RB for another defense?

Two possibilities come to my mind: 1) Collusion; 2) The owner offering the deal's opinion is that owner the Bears D is better for his team/chances for success this season than the Bucs D and Davis.

1) Again, with so many factors taken into consideration, the character of both owners, the tenure of My Tribute in the league, the competitive and passionate desire to win, the idea of collusion makes no sense.

In my opinion, this leaves the 2nd conclusion...2) The owner offering the deal's opinion is that owner the Bears D is better for his team/chances for success this season than the Bucs D and Davis.

Even still does the trade affect the competitive balance in the league, thus hurting the league enough to warrant veto?  At this point, who knows which D may be better this year.  Defenses are historically up and down every year.  To slam my point home, check out the "top performers/players stats link" in the league.  Look at the ranking of defenses for the 2008 season.  Then scroll the date to 2007 and look at the dramatic change.  Can you see the drastic changes including the top D in 2007 being the 19th ranked D in 2008? The Defense aspect is subject to each owners opinion/value.

Then there's Davis...at the point of the trade his was a backup RB that has looked promising.  What does that mean?  There is speculation that he might turn into the starter into the starting RB in Cleveland.  Will he?  Who knows for sure.  Even today, Jamal Lewis was not cut and reports say that he is going to be the starter week one.  We have no crystal ball to know what Davis is going to be.  If we did, we'd be trading for him or trading him away depending on what we knew.  I have to go on what we know now, that he is a rookie, back up RB.  Davis has value but at his CURRENT value, not speculative value, he's a back up.  He has promise and although I definitely can see that it seems that Force has gotten the better end of the deal, only time will tell.  Many of us can refence Ryan Torain.  Think about the promise he had before his first year in the NFL and look at him now.

My Tribute seems to have done what he thought was best for his team.  Like all our moves, only time will tell if they were the right ones or terribly wrong.  At this time it seems that Force got the better end of the deal but taking the deal for what I know now, I don't think it's lopsided enough, at this point, to overturn it.  My decison, after obvious thorough deliberation, is that the trade stands.

DARN IT !!!   AHMED, was almost hoping you would save me from myself :lol::lol:

after all the one owner saying, did do some update reading and saw what he was talking bout on the 'speculation' that jamaul might be cut today (which he wasn't)

SERIOUSLY... at time i made offer to Force, was leaving next morn, had NOT read anything to extent some of others what Force was saying, BUT with the roster cutdown due in Tillman PRIOR to my return, i had to make necessary cuts before left (which i did having to cut instead of 3 following the trade.)
DID have some other roster-cuts due today-tommorrow in some of other leagues, hoping Davis DOES emerge as starter as still have him in 2 other leagues against ZERO jamual leagues ... at time made offer, was down to either frisco wr j. morgan who i have read more on this year supposedly to start and ranked some sites in the latter 30s to 40-range among WRS...

maybe i 'screwed the pooch' so to speak here in Tillman with that trade, BUT one of other facts also began breaking up the massive number of potential bye-week 8 players i have (or had prior to final draft pick and trade)

Lee
p.s.  BTW, thx for the words as far as the 'no-collusion & owner comments'
i certainly understand the one owner who raised protest if i recall correctly was owner who took over final orphan this league late if could do some adds-drops which none of us had problem with, so he obviously doesn't know me in the online leagues etc...
SO, as those of you who do know me from the last 6 years of leagues in GLFFL & here in FF4You leagues...  we all miss the boat on a player along the way AND we all 'uncover-the-proverbial-diamond-in-the-rough' too...  AND if Jamal gets cut soon and / or Davis is clear starter because jamal gets benched (not injured as all of us at one point or another have likely lost a top rb/player and then his backup who we didn't cuff emerge & do good.  IT HAPPENS...  just like i HAVE 'generally' had the 'upper-hand' in most trades as i generally do NOT trade proven top players (i.e. studs or studs-to-be)  BUT like you pointed out and i certainly have done too... have more than once missed the boat on a player.. and once 'proven' i was wrong..... i AINT A-FRAID of admitting it etc (not the looking ahead FINALLY proven right-or-wrigh... always gotta keep in perspective with 'what going on at time with regard to complete roster-configurations etc.  FINALLY, others can rest assured, HAD you overturned the trade, DAVIS would be back on bench AND if had to cut one at this juncutre.... would NOT have been DAVIS ... now (til rumors this last apparently most saw but me, were proven wrong)... woulda been josh morgan being the final waived players !!!

You must not recall correctly, because I was the last owner to join, and I am not the one who protested your trade.
